1:30pm - RE

11am - Maths

English 4th March

9:15 – Phonics:

We danced “Just Dance Despacito”, then played “Flashcards Time Trial” and “Picnic on Pluto Phase 4” on Phonics play Flashcards Speed Trials (phonicsplay.co.uk). The I dictated the sentence: “I can stand in the street and crunch my lunch.”

English: Reading and tasks: Compare Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong by reading the book “Epic Adventures” on Bug Club: ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.co.uk). We read the book on Bug Club and then the children completed the comparison worksheet below.

1:30pm: Spanish

We watched the videos on the Spanish page of the school website: Spanish | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net) and completed the worksheet.

English 3rd of March

We danced “Just Dance The Final Countdown”, then played “Tricky Word Trucks” on Phonics play. Next, I asked each child to give 1 tricky word and we all wrote it down. Then we played “Buried Treasure” on Phonicsplay Phase 4: PhonicsPlay - Phase 4 Resources Finaly, we watched a short video about Amelia Earhart: Amelia Earhart Biography for Kids | Classroom Edition - YouTube and read the warm task about her.

1:30pm - Geography

 Mapping We looked a the PPT about the continents, then watched Mrs Ashley sing about the Oceans. Next we saw the world starting in school on Google Earth: Google Earth, and finally I asked the children to complete the world map including the oceans: Geography | Leedon Lower School

English Tuesday 2 March

1:30pm - Science

We discussed objects and materials and their properties from last week. Then reviewed the PowerPoint and I asked the children to choose 5 objects and test the properties of their materials.

11am: Maths

We watched the video "Introducing the Ruler" on White Rose Maths Spring Week 9 – Measurement: Length and Height | White Rose Maths, then chose between the Cold Task or Hot Task Worksheets Maths | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net).

 

Phonics Monday 9:15am

We dances "I like to Move it" on Jump Start Johnny: Exercise, Dance & Workouts for Kids | Jump Start Jonny

Then we played Speed Trial Flash cards Phase 2 & 3 on Phonic Play: PhonicsPlay

we practiced writing, then spelling the following multi - syllable words: 

sandpit, lunchbox, helper, shelter.

Lastly we returned to Phonicsplay and played Buried Treasure Phase 3 & 4.

In today's RE lesson, we looked at what new life we might see around Easter time.  We will be looking at the Easter story in detail over the next few weeks but for today, can you please share what you already know about Easter?  It might be something religious (why it's celebrated) or it might be something secular (what might I find in the shops around Easter?).

Today, we have been learning about counting.  We started by watching a Jack Hartmann Workout and Count video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_yUC1NCFkE&t=2s) and then we looked at the White Rose Activity video (the links to these are below).

 

For your activity today, I would like you to make up your own video counting in 2s or 5s.  You can make it an exercise one if you like or you can just demonstrate the counting (maybe using shoes to count to 2).

Friday 5th February – 9:15 am

We started by doing some “Jump start Jonny”: Exercise, Dance & Workouts for Kids | Jump Start Jonny.

Phonics – We practiced reading some more tricky words then read the interactive story “What did you put in my lunchbox” on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay - Phase 4 Resources.

English – We watched the video about “Pirate Rules” (22) Horrible Histories - Pirate Rules | Putrid Pirates - YouTube and discussed why rules are important. Then I asked the children to pretend to be captains and write a list of rules for their own pirate ships.

Thursday 4th February – 1:30 pm

RE – I showed the children the 1st video virtual tour of a church R.E. | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). Then they had a choice of the following:

Less confident writers – draw and label one or two of the things in the church that they thought were important.

More confident writers – make a short guidebook for the church. The guidebook should include pictures of at least 4 objects in the church and explain what they are and how they are used.

Thursday 4th February – 11 am

Thursday 4th February – 9:15 am

We started by dancing Just Dance “Jump start Jonny”: Exercise, Dance & Workouts for Kids | Jump Start Jonny.

Phonics – We practiced reading some more tricky words (My damp tent smells as bad as a mad skunk. Do all brown toads grunt and groan? My chimp had a sandwich for her lunch). and then played Buried Treasure on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay - Phase 4 Resources.

English – We looked at the painting “The Pirates Discussion” by Arthur David McCormick. We spoke about what a “Discussion” is and I asked the children to use speech bubbles to write down the discussion that they think took place.

Wednesday 3rd February – 1:30 pm

Spanish – I showed the children the video about emotions Spanish | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). Then asked them practice asking their family, pets and toys how they are feeling and writing down the answers.

English – We looked at the painting “The Pirates Discussion” by Arthur David McCormick and I asked the children to write a description of it using adjectives.

Tuesday 2nd February – 1:30 pm

Art / Music – I showed the children the video of the song “Being a pirate” Music | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net) and asked them to learn to sing it. Then I showed them a treasure map (in the document below) and said they could choose between the learning the song or making their own treasure map.

English – We read the message in the bottle from Sam and Polly and I asked them to write a response. Lastly I explained that this afternoon we would be discussing making a treasure map. 

Monday 1st February – 1:30 pm

Science – I reminded the children of the materials that we discussed last week and then we discussed what an object is. We looked at a PowerPoint about Objects and materials and then I asked the children to find 3 objects made of different materials and then 1 object made of 3 different materials.

Thursday 28th January – 1:30 pm

RE – We looked different Church towers and Steeples around England in the PDF: R.E. | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). We spoke about why they are built so tall and what they were used for (bell towers, clock towers, drawing our eyes up to the heavens, a safe place during attacks on the city). Lastly, I asked the children to try and build their own Steeples/Towers from any materials they wanted and share these on Seesaw.

English – We discussed Capital letters and full stops and then I asked them to rewrite Sayeeda’s Diary.

Wednesday 27th January – 1:30 pm

Spanish – We tried dancing some Flamenco: (17) Clases de Flamenco para niñ@s - YouTube. Next, I asked the children if they remembered any of the greetings from last week. Then we watched the video about La familia: (17) Family members in Spanish for Children | Educational Videos for Kids - YouTube and I asked them to make a family tree poster.

Phonics – We practiced reading some more tricky words and then played Buried Treasure on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay - Phase 4 Resources. I reminded them where to find Phase 4 Matching Make a Match to play on their own.

English – I told the children that they could re-read the story if they wanted after the class. Then we listened to the song “When I sucked my thumb”: When I was one I sucked my thumb - BBC Teach. Finally, I asked them to make a list of 6 things that they would put in their own treasure chest before a voyage out to sea.

English – We read the story of Sayeeda the Pirate Princess again and discussed the story. I asked them to try and answer the questions.

Monday 25th January – 1:30 pm

Science – We looked at the PowerPoint about identifying and describing materials. We discussed the slides and then I asked the children to find examples of the different materials in their homes. They either draw or photograph these and label them with adjectives to describe them, and upload them to Seesaw.

Phonics – We practiced reading some tricky words and then we played Reading Robot and Flash Cards Speed Trial on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay. And I showed them where to find Phase 4 Matching Make a Match to play on their own.

English – We read the story of Sayeeda the Pirate Princess and discussed the story. I asked them to try and write the following words from the story:

Galleon, breeze and swoop. Lastly I asked them to try Mrs Cullen’s PE Pirate exercises – lesson 1 - HOME PE - Pirate Fitness KS1 | Primary PE Planning

Friday 22nd January – 11 am

Next we watched the 5th White Rose Maths video about “Subtraction crossing 10 – Counting Back” (Spring Week 3 – Number: Addition and Subtraction (within 20) | White Rose Maths), Maths | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net) Then I asked the children to go to the kitchen and count all the cutlery. They must write down the total, and then take away the forks and write down how many are left. The repeat with the knives, spoons, etc. Post their answers on Seesaw. Lastly, I asked the children to keep playing Doodle Maths and bug club.

Friday 22nd January – 9 am

Phonics – We practiced reading some tricky words and then we played Dragon’s Den on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay.

Phonics – We learned the next 4 phonemes: gl, pl, cl, tw and wrote down some tricky words. Then we played Buried Treasure on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay.

English -    I congratulated those that had put their story mountains on Seesaw and asked the others to do so. Next, I explained that they needed to think about a Resolution and Ending for their stories and add those to their story mountains and Seesaw.

Tuesday 19th January – 1:30 pm

Design and technology – I asked the children to use the recycling that they have collected to make a vehicle. We looked at some examples on the PowerPoint on the school webpage in the year 1 Art and Design section: Art and design | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). Tuesday 19th January – 9 am

Phonics – We learned the next 4 phonemes: st, fr, bl, fl and wrote down some tricky words. Then we played Tricky word Trucks on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay.

English -    I reminded the children of the two stories we have read this term – The Magical Bicycle and The Dreamer, and that we spoke about Adjectives and Similes. I asked a few students to share their characters and then we discussed the build-up (what’s happening and what do they wish for) and the problem. Finally, I asked them to write these parts of their story.

 

Monday 18th January – 1:30 pm

Science – I asked the children to think about what changes we have to make for winter and to think about what animals have to do. We looked at the PPt from the school science page: Science | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net) and discussed the following words: Hibernate, migrate and adapt. Then please choose an animal and what it does to adapt to the Winter. Please upload to Seesaw.

Friday 15th January – 9 am

We started by dancing Just Dance YMCA: Just Dance 2020 The song Y.M.C.A - YouTube

Phonics – We learned the next 4 phonemes: xt, tr, dr, gr. The we played Tricky word Trucks on Phonics Play: PhonicsPlay.

English -    I reminded the children of the two stories we have read this term – The Magical Bicycle and The Dreamer, and that we spoke about Adjectives and Similes. I asked them to write their own version of one of the fairy tales that we read last year, using adjectives and similes. (The 3 Little Pigs, the Billy Goats Gruff, Chicken Licken, The Elves and Shoemakers, The Gingerbread man, etc).

Thursday 14th January – 1:30 pm

R.E. – I asked the children if they remembered the special places that we discussed last week. Then we learned how to perform “Here is the church and here is the Steeple.” And watched a short video: (4) Fingerplay: Here is the church. Here is the steeple... - YouTube. Next watched the videos about a Mosque and a Gurdwara: R.E. | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). And finally, we compared the outsides and insides of a few churches. I asked the children if they could draw a church for us.

Thursday 14th January – 11 am

Maths – We sang along with Jack Hartman counting in different ways. (Workout & Count | Skip Count by 2's, 5's and 10's | Count Backwards | Jack Hartmann - YouTube), then I asked the children to run around the house and count all the windows.

Thursday 14th January – 9:15 am

Phonics – We danced with Mario Just Dance ((4) [Just Dance 2018] Ubisoft Meets Nintendo - Just Mario Gameplay - YouTube). Next, we learned our new phonemes: lp, lf, lk, pt and wrote some words with these. Then we played Phase 4 Dragon’s Den and Buried treasure on Phonics Play (PhonicsPlay - Resources)

English – We watched and practiced the actions for “The Dreamer” (Earth | Leedon Lower School). Then I asked the children to write their own version of the story using extra adjectives and similes and post these on Seesaw.

Wednesday 13th January – 1:30 pm

Spanish - We danced some Flamenco and I explained that this week’s PE challenge was to learn some Spanish dancing and showed the children the Spanish page: Spanish | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net). Next I showed them the video of me introducing myself and asked them to try and make their own videos. Before starting we watched the “Cual es tu color favorito?” video so that they could learn how to say My favourite colour is……

Tuesday 12th January – 1:30 pm

Topic (On the Move) – I asked if the children have been recording the weather. We watched a short part of the stunning start video (Stunning start video - YouTube) with the Red Arrows and a short Fly Past video (Red Arrows fly over London to mark 75th anniversary of VE Day - YouTube). We then visited their website (Red Arrows | Royal Air Force (mod.uk) and looked at the planes – especially the colours. Next, I showed the class where to find the pictures to redesign (Art and design | Leedon Lower School). Please can you draw the plane with Red, White and Blue, and then try in your own colours.

Phonics & Literacy – We started with Just dance – Ghost Busters (Just Dance 2014 - Ghostbusters (Classic 5 Stars) PS3 - YouTube) and then began the new Phonics – Phase 4 . We looked at the first 4 sounds "st, nd, mp, nt". We wrote these down as well as some words with each. Stop, hand, stamp, ant. Phonics play game. (PhonicsPlay - Phase 4 Resources)

Monday 11th January – 1:30 pm

Science: Winter Weather - We spoke about which month and season it is now and what children thought of the weather outside. We looked at the Winter PowerPoint and photos and then at the online weather forecast today in Leighton Buzzard. Finally, we watched Mr Wilkinson (Science | Leedon Lower School (secure-primarysite.net)  explaining how to make a Rain Gauge. The children need to make their own one and place it outside. Every day they should write down what they observe of the weather – temperature, cloud cover, wind, fog and rain or snow.

Maths - First we practiced counting to 100 with Jack Hartman (Let's Get Fit | Count to 100 | 2020 Version | Jack Hartmann - YouTube)  Next we watched the White Rose video (Spring Week 2 - Number: Addition and Subtraction (within 20) | White Rose Maths) about counting on. Using some pieces of paper with numbers on them, we practiced counting and put some numbers on Seesaw.

Monday 11th January - 9:15 am

Phonics and English - We started with dancing the Just Dance "Happy" Song: (Just Dance Now - Happy by Pharrell Williams - YouTube). Next, we practiced our Phase 3 Phonics with a flash card speed trial on Phonics Play: Flashcards Speed Trials (phonicsplay.co.uk). I mentioned that in Tuesday’s class I would begin introducing Phase 4. After that we watched Mr Wilkinson read “The Dreamer”. We discussed why they thought it was a Wishing Tale, looked for new words, then we made a story Mountain of it to share on Seesaw.

NEW WORDS: Admire, gather, pondered, inspiration, struck, blossomed, modified, momentum.

Finally, I asked them to have twenty pieces of paper with the numbers 1-20 written on them for Maths.

Friday 8th January - 11 am

Maths  - We exercised and counted to 100 with Jack Hartman (Let's Get Fit | Count to 100 | Count to 100 Song | Counting to 100 | Jack Hartmann - YouTube). Next I asked the children to write from 0 - 20 forwards and backwards in their books. After that, they had to collect or cut 20 pieces of paper and write the numbers on these to use during the video.  Finally I left them to watch the final video for activity week. Activity Week | White Rose Maths

Friday 8th January - 9:15 am

English - We started by dancing to the "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Just Dance video (Just Dance 3 Baha Men Who Let The Dogs Out - YouTube), then the children shared their Story Mountain pictures. Next we discussed Similes and answered an internet quizz about these. After that we read "The Magical Bicycle again" and looked for examples of Similes in the books. Finally I asked the children if they could think of two Similes of their own and post these on Seesaw. 

 

Thursday 7th January - 1:30 pm

R.E.  - We discussed what places were important to the children in Leighton Buzzard, then looked at pictures from the Town. Next, the children had to draw and describe the most important place for them and upload this to Seesaw. 

Thursday 7th January - 11 am

Maths - We practiced counting to 100 while exercising with Spiderman. Then we watched the third and fourth Activity Week videos and the children had to draw or make their own snowmen and snowflakes and upload these to Seesaw. 

Thursday 7th January - 9:15 am

English - We watched Mr Wilkinson's video about Story Mountains, then I read the Magical Bicycle again. The children had to draw their own story mountain of the story.
